Bass Fishing on Cedar Creek Lake

it. No personal watercraft. No jet-driven
pleasure boats. No skiing or houseboats.
Just pure, unadulterated fishing territory
wherever you go. Talk about a unique and
desirable approach to creating what most of
us would consider an angling utopia!
Just a dream right.
Not anymore not since the impoundment of a
new 784 acre lake property named Cedar Creek
Lake. During the preparations of Cedar Creek
Lake, it was decided to leave al trees and
bush to provide a habitat for the lake's
many species of fish. In areas without trees
and bush, cement filled buckets with arrays
of 5-foot long wooden sticks p
rotruding
out, packaging tarps, anchored downed trees,
and other various fish habitat improvement
structures were placed to fill in these bald
area. Sounds great doesn't it. Wait it get
better. The KDFWR(Kentucky Department of
Fish and Wildlife Resources) thought of
everything when they built this one. To
build this lake they dammed what was known
to locals as Cedar Creek, hence the name
with this came one of the largemouth's
favorite meals, crawfish. Along with the
other species of fish stocked including
bluegill, shell cracker, and crappie makes
this a smorgasbord of sorts. Numerous areas
of the lake have been artificially enhanced
not only for fishing cover, but also with
spawning and feeding in mind. So lets
recount what we have went over. There are
three main ingredients required to make a
body of water a trophy bass lake. Cover,
check. Forage, check. A safe place to spawn,
check. Like I said before they thought of
everything. And with a one fish 20-inch
minimum on largemouth it ensures there will
be plenty to go around.
This
lake isn't being managed like an average
bass fishery might be elsewhere. The KDFWR
is hoping for "GOLD" in this event,
and from the first day of preparation, the
goal has always been different , one that
would help fulfill a bass angler's dreams of
what a quality fishing environment and
experience would be. If you are like most
bass angler's and don't mind practicing
great catch and release. Then this is the
spot for you.
